Parker Ferrell Presents Program on Interact to Rotary Club of Sparta

Sparta, TN – May 4, 2017 – Interact member Parker Ferrell, son of Michele Ferrell, presented to Rotary Club of Sparta a program on the Interact student club at the White County High School (WCHS).

Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Interact is an acronym for International Action and is part of Rotary International.

Parker described the membership process and some of the projects in which Interact participated during the school year. Each member performs at least 80 hours of community service during the school year.

Ms. Ferrell, Interact liaison, said, “It is important to have high school kids involved with Interact and the Rotary Club of Sparta because it teaches them leadership skills needed in the community.”

Interact members connect with leaders in the community and around the world to make a difference in the member’s school and community. The Rotary Club of Sparta sponsors the WCHS Interact club.

The Rotary Club of Sparta, chartered in 1935, is composed of business and community leaders who live by the motto of “Service Above Self”. Rotary meets every Thursday at noon in the Senior Citizen Center.

Rotary Club of Sparta Announces Annual Golf Tournament for June 10, 2017

Sparta, TN -- April 24, 2017 – The Rotary Club of Sparta is pleased to announce its annual golf tournament on June 10, 2017 at the Sparta Country Club golf course. This year’s memorial tournament honors the late Dr. Jeff Ross and Edd Rogers. The golf tournament is one of Rotary’s biggest fund raiser and all funds will be used to support the community’s non-revenue school sports, dictionaries for all third-grade students in White County and many more projects that benefit Sparta.

John Hunter, event chair, says, “This year’s tournament will be bigger and better thanks to the support of Sparta’s businesses and local golfers.”

The tournament will have a total of 18 teams with a waiting list if there are more teams than slots. The cost for a team of four is $240.00, which should be paid and registered no later than June 3, 2017.

Sponsors are encouraged to support the annual event. The fee for two signs on the course is $500. One sign is $300 and $50 gets a name or business on the banner. All sponsors will have their name on the banner.

Mr. Hunter continues, “The Rotary Club of Sparta, chartered in 1934, has a long history of serving not only the local community, but is active with Rotary International in helping to eradicate polio from the world. There have been just a few documented cases of polio this year and Rotary is ‘this close’ to achieving its goal.”

If an individual or business wishes to sponsor the golf tournament, contact John Hunter at Hunter Funeral Home or any Rotarian. There will be refreshments and water for all golfers, plus door prizes, and rewards for the winning teams. Each year, Edd Rogers Chevrolet sponsors a hole in one for a selected hole.
